Why donate your vehicle?

Why donate to Guild?

• We have free home, business, and dealership pickup.
• We accept all types and ages of vehicles in drivable condition - even if it needs repair.
• Donating a used vehicle helps Guild Incorporated provide housing, health and hope to those who have schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other long-term mental illnesses.

What can you donate?

Cars, trucks, boats, fleet vehicles, motor homes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, personal water crafts, and RVs.

What kind of shape does my vehicle have to be in to donate it?

The vehicle needs to be in running order for us to accept it.  However, exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.

Will you pick-up my vehicle?

Yes, we can arrange to have your donation picked up.  Our goal is to pick up donations within 24 hours.  You can drop off your donation if that is more convenient.

What happens next?

The vehicle will be assessed, repaired it necessary, cleaned and then sold for us by Cars With Heart.

How much can I deduct from my taxes?

The amount of your deduction is based on two options.  First of all, you can elect to take a standard deduction of up to $500.  The second option is a deduction based on the gross proceeds of the sale of your vehicle.  You may wish to consult your tax professional or other advisor to assure you are maximizing your deduction.

How will I know the sale price?

Guild Incorporated gives you the information in writing within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle.  If significant improvements are going to be made to your vehicle, then you will get the information within 30 days of the date of your donation.

What paperwork do I need to claim the deduction?

Guild Incorporated will give you a written acknowledgement of your donation that contains all the information you need to claim your deduction with the IRS.

How do I donate my car?

• Step 1 - Find the keys and title.  You must own the vehicle at the time of donation.   Can't find the title?  We can help you get a replacement.
• Step 2 - Donate.  Call George at 651-470-7343 (M-F, 9am to 5pm); or email gbroostin@guildincorporated.org to arrange for a free pick-up at a time and place convenient to you.
• Step 3 - Keep records.  Receive a receipt at the time of donation and receive acknowledgement within 30 days of sale for your tax records.
• Step 4 - Enjoy!  You've helped pave the road to recovery.

Who sells your car?

Guild Incorporated has a service agreement with a St. Paul company called Cars With Heart, who will sell your car.  They have years of experience selling vehicles donated to nonprofit agencies.
